Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has pledged his administration's commitment to ensuring a smooth pilgrimage to the Holy Land for Christian pilgrims from the state. He also emphasised his government's role in fostering unity between the two major religions in Adamawa.
Governor Fintiri made these remarks while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) at the Government House in Yola.
The Governor expressed his approval of the appointment of the NCPC's Executive Secretary, commending his qualifications and aligning them with President Muhammadu Buhari's slogan of renewed hope for the nation's people.
Governor Fintiri assured the NCPC that within the week, he would inaugurate the Chairperson and board members of the Adamawa State Christian Welfare Board to ensure a seamless operation for this year's pilgrimage. He also pledged to instruct the new board members to cooperate fully with the NCPC.
The Governor offered his continued prayers for the Executive Secretary's success in leading the commission. He reassured the commission that no Adamawa pilgrim would abscond during their pilgrimage, highlighting the state's history of well-behaved pilgrims in the Holy Land.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the NCPC, Rt Rev. Stephen Adegbite, who led the delegation, expressed gratitude to Governor Fintiri for his support towards the Adamawa State pilgrims' board. He voiced optimism that the challenges facing Nigeria would be overcome soon, emphasising the power of prayer from both Christianity and Islam in achieving this.
Rev. Adegbite commended Governor Fintiri for his administration's infrastructural advancements, including road improvements, housing estates, transportation upgrades, the construction of new cottage hospitals across the state's three geopolitical zones, the implementation of free education in all public primary and secondary schools, and the covering of Senior Secondary School Examination fees.
He unveiled his vision to elevate Nigerian pilgrimages to a new level, where sponsorship would enable underprivileged individuals to undertake pilgrimages to the Holy Land. He declared 2024 to be a year of renewed hope and satisfaction for Nigerian pilgrimages.
One hundred and sixty nine intending pilgrims in Adamawa State have started screening for the 2023/2024 pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Israel.
