Adamawa State Governor, Rt Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has inaugurated the Governing Council of Adamawa State University in Mubi, tasking them with transforming the university into a world-class institution.
The Governor highlighted the council's strategic role in overseeing university management and accountability.
"One of your core duties is overseeing and ensuring accountability on the part of the University’s management" Governor Fintiri tasked the Governing Council.
"This is a special call to duty and service. You have just been offered an opportunity to make a date with history.
"It is a chance to join us in the onerous task of reshaping the future of Adamawa State.
“Yours is even more tasking as you sit at the echelon of the hatchery of the makers of such future.”
Governor Fintiri emphasized the ambitious goal of achieving a top 10 world ranking, urging the council to focus on academic and research output, reputation, and alumni impact.
He reiterated the government's commitment to education, citing investments in access, infrastructure, and free education policies.
“We are fixing the dilapidated infrastructure in our schools and building new ones, Governor Fintiri said.
“Works are ongoing at our 21 model basic education schools across the state. We have concluded the plans to flag-off the construction of three mega senior secondary schools across the three senatorial zones.
A world-class university, he argued, is crucial to accommodate graduates from these initiatives.
The inauguration signifies the government's prioritization of education as a tool for empowerment, poverty reduction, security, and societal well-being.
Responding, the Chairman of the Adamawa State University Governing Council, Prof. Maxwell Gidado, thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for finding them worthy to serve on the council.
He assured that the Governing Council will reciprocate the confidence bestowed on them by ensuring they take Adamawa State University to its expected position
Those inaugurated are: Professor Maxwell Gidado SAN as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman. While Alhaji ALiyu Mohammed Gabdo, Mr Vidon Jaule, Dr Ali Danburam and Barrister Hapsat Abdullahi JImeta to serve as members
