The history book, titled 'History of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria, Adamawa State Council (1944-2024)', documents the activities of the Boys' Brigade from its establishment by a Danish Missionary, Rev. Theodore Mathiesen in Adamawa in 1944 to the present. The book has been launched at Government Secondary School Numan, venue of the ongoing 80th Anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Boys' Brigade in Adamawa.
The book reviewer, Dr Benjamin Dire, reviewed the book and commended the book compiler, Mr Barnabas Augustine and the team of editors for recording what transpired in Boys' Brigade Nigeria Adamawa State Council from the period of the Missionary leaders to the present indigenous leaders.
He explained that the history book, which comprises 13 chapters, was divided into three parts. He said Part 1 of the book discussed the Boys' Brigade's mission with 3 chapters. Part 2, which focuses on the spread of the Boys' Brigade in Adamawa, has 6 chapters. While Part 3 comprises three chapters and discusses the growth and glorious years of the Boys' Brigade in Adamawa State.
Dr Dire lauded prominent leaders of the Boys' Brigade in Adamawa for their good record keeping while admonishing the next generation leaders to emulate the good deeds of the past leaders of the Boys' Brigade.
On his part, the Chief Launcher of the history book, Chief Morris Vonobolki, described the Boys' Brigade as a disciplined organisation that promotes good Christian values.
Represented by Rev. Tonborokai Robert Gajere, Chief Vonobolki encouraged BB leaders to continue imparting knowledge to the young boys, calling on the relevant authorities to consider the Boys' Brigade as a ground for recruiting military and paramilitary personnel given the organisation imparts rudiments of drill and other relevant trainings to its members.
Earlier speaking, the President, Boys' Brigade Nigeria Adamawa State Council, Mr Geoffrey Simon Kula stated that during the 80th years of the establishment of the Boys' Brigade in Adamawa, much has been achieved in terms of infrastructure development and training of the Boys.
He affirmed that the BB in Adamawa will continue to grow to its expected position while calling on the church and the communities to keep supporting the organisation.
The book compiler, Mr Barnabas Augustine, urged the BB leaders in Adamawa to undertake a comprehensive review to identify lasting solutions to some of the challenges of the BB in Adamawa.
Stating the enduring legacy of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria, Adamawa State Council, he said the BB's presence in Adamawa originated in Numan and has since flourished throughout the state. While the Council has undoubtedly faced challenges, its remarkable progress far outweighs these obstacles.
