In a moving ceremony, members of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria in Adamawa paid their last respects to the late Yakubu Hamalai.
Mr. Hamalai was a stalwart of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria, serving as Captain of the 25th Yola North Company attached to All Saints Protestant Church, 23rd Armoured Brigade Yola.
He attended many Boys' Brigade Nigeria courses to Advanced Officers Course.
During the funeral service at the EYN State Low-Cost Jimeta-Yola, Reverend Moses Luckson delivered a sermon describing Mr. Hamalai as a multi-talented individual who diligently committed himself to various church subgroups within the EYN denomination.
Citing scripture from 1 Thessalonians 4:13, Reverend Luckson said that those who pass away in Christ will rise again on the Day of Judgement.
He urged Christians to live a Christ-like life to ensure their place in paradise, noting that Apostle Paul alluded to Christ's imminent arrival to judge the world.
While consoling the family and the church, the Chairman of the Yola North Battalion Council, Mr Daniel Musa Zira, said that the late Yakubu Hamalai dedicated his life and time to the service of the Boys' Brigade in both the conventional and denominational fellowships.
He said he was one of the BB members who are true lovers of the Brigade.
Born on 15 May 1969 in Mubi to the late Reverend Hamalai Gwalen and the late Mama Sintiki, Mr. Hamalai was also involved in other church subgroups, including the Youth Fellowship, Kungiyar Sabon Rai Don Kowa (New Life For All), and Zumuntan Maza (Men's Fellowship).
As the son of a Christian family, Mr. Hamalai was baptised on 29th June 1985 by Reverend Joshua Njida within the Ekklisiyar Yan Uwar a Nigeria (Church of the Brethren in Nigeria).
He was known for his devotion to church activities.
His civil service career commenced on 25th November 1989 with the defunct Gongola State. Following the division of Gongola State into Adamawa and Taraba States in 1991, Mr. Hamalai continued his civil service with the Adamawa State Civil Service. He was stationed at Government House Yola at the time of his passing.
Mr. Hamalai married Sarah Yakubu Hamalai in 2008 at the EYN State Low-Cost, Jimeta-Yola.
Yakubu Hamalai died on 8 May 2024 at the Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital Yola.
He is survived by his wife Sarah, siblings Hon. Titi Malik, Prof. Ladies Hamalai, Mr Dauda Hamalai, Mr Yusuf Hamalai, Mrs Halima Rufus, Mr Iliyasu Hamalai, Mr Samail Hamalai, Ms Saratu Hamalai, and many other relatives.
The burial of Mr. Hamalai took place at the Jimeta-Yola Cemetery following the funeral service at the EYN State Low-Cost Jimeta-Yola.
