Adamawa State Police have arrested 25-year-old Yahaya Balarabe on suspicion of murdering his close friend, Usman.
According to a statement released by police spokesperson SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the incident occurred on 17th July, 2024. Balarabe, a resident of Dage Village in Ganye Local Government Area, is alleged to have accompanied Usman to his farm under the guise of helping him apply weedkiller.
A deplorable act followed. The statement details how Balarabe savagely attacked Usman, stabbing him in the head with a cutlass before callously disposing of the body in a ditch.
Nguroje further revealed that the police apprehended Balarabe after receiving a report from the deceased's family. Crucial evidence found at the crime scene linked the suspect to the murder.
Balarabe reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting his motivation was to steal Usman's motorcycle and money.
Police Determined to Secure Justice
"The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, expressing concern over the unfortunate incident, and commended operatives of Ganye Divisional police Headquarters for detecting, and making it impossible for the suspect to escape Justice" the Police spokesman said in the statement.
"The CP has directed Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID to takeover investigation and ensure law takes its course".
Nguroje concluded the statement by urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any individuals exhibiting suspicious behaviour to the police.
