Adamawa State Governor, Rt Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has directed that henceforth, any female student who passes the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) with 9 Credits or above will be qualified for the state scholarship to study at tertiary institutions within Nigeria.

Governor Fintiri made the announcement in his office at)0AA Government House, Yola, while receiving parents of female students who passed the SSCE with 9 Credits or above and were awarded scholarships to study at tertiary institutions.

Demonstrating his administration's commitment to girls' education, Governor Fintiri instructed the Executive Director of the state scholarship trust fund to continue selecting all female students who pass the SSCE with 9 Credits or above, as it has become an ongoing programme of his administration.

Governor Fintiri stated that the state will be better off by training the future generation, who will become better leaders of tomorrow. He emphasised that female students deserve the privilege of enjoying scholarships to study at tertiary institutions.

He explained that the decision to award scholarships to female students stemmed from his campaign promise in 2023 at the Jada Mbulo constituency. There, he was impressed by a poem recited by a female student in SS3 who passed the SSCE with 9 Credits. He disclosed that, from that moment, he promised to award scholarships to any female student who passes the SSCE with 9 Credits.

According to Governor Fintiri, parents of such students may not have the opportunity to further their education due to a lack of finances.

He said that prior to the 2023 election, he had paid 100% of the scholarships for the female students who were selected that year to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.

He announced that his government is building model schools across all 21 LGAs of the state. He added that his government will build three science and technical schools in the state, one of which will be a girls' school.

Governor Fintiri emphasised that the investment his government is making in the education sector is yielding positive results, as the state excelled in the 2023 SSCE, emerging as the second-best in the country.

While introducing the parents of the beneficiary female students, the Acting Executive Director of the Adamawa State Scholarship Trust Fund, Kinbu Ayuba, said that 21 female students scored 9 Credits or above in the SSCE. Adding that all of them were awarded the scholarship instructed by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Speaking on behalf of the parents of the beneficiary female students, Yakubu Inuwa described Governor Fintiri as a Godsend who has come to rescue Adamawa State.

He praised Governor Fintiri for initiating the scholarship program in the state. He said that some of them could not afford to sponsor their children to tertiary institutions, but Governor Fintiri has changed the narrative by giving their children scholarships.
