Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has inspected the Wagga Bridge in Madagali, Madagali Local Government Area, which was washed away by heavy downpours of rain this week.
While fielding questions from Government House Yola reporters, Governor Fintiri assured swift measures to repair the bridge as soon as possible.
Governor Fintiri stated that the road and bridge connect Adamawa and Borno States, leading to Mandara Mountain and the Sambisa Forest, where some Boko Haram members are still active.
He emphasised that if the road is allowed to be completely washed away, it would not only affect the economic activities of the two states but also hinder military operations against insurgents in the area.
The Governor explained that he visited the area to assess the condition of the road and has begun communicating with the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
"I have begun discussions with the North East Development Commission, not the Federal Government, because relying on the Federal Government's procurement process would cause significant delays," Governor Fintiri stated.
"I have sought out the agency with the mandate to carry out this job – the NEDC – and they are positive about repairing the road, which is essential for Borno and Adamawa states," he added.
The northern part of Adamawa State has been heavily affected by the activities of Boko Haram, particularly during the peak of their operations.
Recently, the military joint task force has made significant progress in wiping out Boko Haram.
While the infrastructure, especially the federal road linking Adamawa and Borno in the northern axis, remains dilapidated, people have returned home after attacks on their communities to continue with their economic activities.
