A passenger plane operated by Saurya Airlines tragically veered off the runway during takeoff at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday.
The sole survivor is the pilot, who was pulled from the burning wreckage and is currently receiving treatment.
Sadly, all 18 others on board perished, including one foreign national whose identity remains unconfirmed.
The aircraft was a Bombardier CRJ-200 jet carrying only Saurya Airlines staff, two crew members, and 17 employees, for a technical or maintenance-related flight.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Nepal has a history of air safety concerns, with difficult mountainous terrain and frequent bad weather conditions posing challenges for pilots.
The European Union has even banned Nepali carriers from its airspace due to these safety issues.
This crash marks the second major commercial plane accident in Nepal in just over a year, following the Yeti Airlines tragedy in January 2023 that claimed 72 lives.
