Herve Renard has set a sky-high asking price for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to consider as they search for a new coach for the Super Eagles.
The French manager has reportedly demanded a hefty monthly salary of $180,000 (approximately N253 million), along with other unspecified conditions.
An anonymous NFF official confirmed contact with Renard but admitted, "The biggest hurdle is his salary request of $180,000 a month. This would be the highest ever paid to a Super Eagles coach, and it's simply beyond our current financial capabilities. We may be barking up the wrong tree with this one."
Renard isn't short of suitors, with Egypt offering a reported $1.9 million package and the United States also expressing interest.
The 54-year-old boasts a proven track record, having secured AFCON victories with both Zambia and Côte d'Ivoire.
This situation presents a stark contrast to the recent negotiations with previous coach Jose Peseiro. The Portuguese manager initially received $70,000 monthly, but this was significantly reduced to $50,000 for his extended contract leading up to the postponed AFCON tournament in Côte d'Ivoire. Even at the lower rate, Peseiro reportedly faced payment delays stretching back 13 months.
