The Joint Tax Board doffed its cap to the Adamawa State Government for its stewardship of public funds.
On Monday, Board Secretary Olusegun Adesokan, leading a delegation to Yola's Government House, lauded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's administration as a model of fiscal responsibility, ensuring taxpayers' money is put to good use.
"The state's flourishing infrastructure is a testament to sound governance," Adesokan remarked.
The Board's visit to Adamawa coincided with a regional training programme on tax administration, aiming to bolster tax collection efficiency.
Adesokan emphasised the importance of technological advancements in tax collection, advocating for a progressive system where the less well-off contribute less, while the wealthy and large corporations shoulder a heavier burden.
He encouraged the Adamawa State Government, through its Internal Revenue Board, to maintain its course towards robust development and economic prosperity.
Governor Fintiri, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Edgar Amos, conveyed the government's appreciation for the longstanding collaboration. While commending the Board's focus on training and technology, the Governor underscored the need to go beyond collection and tackle corruption, plugging loopholes in tax administration.
The Yola training will see participants delve into tax audit, enforcement, and compliance.
