Lagos: Man Dies in Horrific Industrial Accident

A young man has tragically lost his life after a horrific incident at a Lagos industrial plant. The 25-year-old, whose identity remains unknown, was employed as a contractor at the facility when the fatal accident occurred.

According to police, the alarm was raised by the company’s safety officer on the afternoon of August 3rd. The man is said to have entered a restricted area of the plant where molten iron is processed. Despite desperate attempts by colleagues to intervene, the individual leapt into the vat and was completely burnt.

The incident took place at the company’s premises in the Odogunyan district of Ikorodu. 

The Lagos State command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident.

The PPRO disclosed today, Sunday that at approximately 3:15 pm on 3rd August, contract workers assigned to the company's AOD Department breached safety protocols by entering the restricted iron smelting furnace area while the equipment was in use. And, it led to the dead of the contract worker.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
