NiMet Predicts 3-Day Thunder Storm in Whole Country

Wet and Wild Weekend on the Horizon for Nigeria!

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is predicting a splashy three-day affair with thunderstorms and rain drenching the entire nation from Friday to Sunday.

Brace Yourselves for Brisk Mornings:

  • Look out for lively lightning and booming thunder across northern states like Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Taraba, Jigawa, Gombe, and Bauchi on Friday morning.
  • Similar theatrics are expected in the afternoon for Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Bauchi, Adamawa, Jigawa, and Kano.

Central Nigeria Gets a Drenching:

  • The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Plateau can expect an electrifying morning with thunderstorms.
  • The afternoon/evening promises a repeat performance in the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Benue.

Southern Showers:

  • The south won't escape the downpour either. Residents of Abia, Imo, Oyo, Edo, Delta, and Akwa Ibom can expect a damp start to their Friday with morning rains.
  • By the afternoon/evening, Enugu, Anambra, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa will be joining the wet party.

Saturday's Stormy Symphony:

  • The north continues the electrical display with morning thunderstorms in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, and Taraba.
  • The afternoon/evening sees a repeat performance in Sokoto, Adamawa, Kebbi, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano, Gombe, Bauchi, and Katsina.
  • The FCT, Nasarawa, and Niger can expect a stormy morning in the central region, followed by another round in the afternoon/evening for the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger.

Southern Soak Continues:

  • Similar to Friday, Osun, Edo, Delta, and Lagos will face morning showers in the south.
  • Continuous rain is expected throughout the day for Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti.
  • The coastal states of Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom can brace for additional afternoon/evening showers.

Sunday's Scattered Storms:

  • The north experiences a final hurrah with isolated thunderstorms in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara in the morning.
  • Later, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Bauchi, and Kaduna can expect similar isolated storms.
  • The central region can expect cloudy skies with occasional sunshine, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in Niger during the afternoon/evening.
  • The south will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the afternoon/evening for Ondo, Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa.

NiMet warns of potential flooding due to heavy downpours, particularly in major cities. Strong winds may precede the rain, so take necessary precautions. The agency advises everyone to follow safety advisories from local authorities and stay updated on weather forecasts.
