Two Nabbed in Ogun for Criminal Impersonation and Vandalism

Abeokuta – Officers from the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps made a double arrest, apprehending two individuals for separate but serious offences.

Oluwatobi Salami, a 30-year-old man, was taken into custody following his arrest by vigilant members of the public in Sagamu on Saturday. Salami had been masquerading as an officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Army. When apprehended, he was found in possession of attire and insignia belonging to both organisations.

David Ojelabi, Commandant of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, revealed that Salami’s deceitful activities had come to an end. 

“This individual’s brazen impersonation is a serious crime,” he stated. 

“We will ensure he faces the full force of the law.”

In a separate incident, Idris Zakari, a 20-year-old from Kebbi State, was detained for vandalising railway infrastructure in the Ifo Local Government Area. The arrest was made possible thanks to a joint operation between the Civil Defence Corps and the So-Safe Corps.

Commandant Ojelabi expressed his zero-tolerance stance on such acts of vandalism, emphasising their detrimental impact on the economy. 

“We will not allow criminals to sabotage our infrastructure,” he declared.

Both suspects are currently in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution, the Commandant added. 

The Civil Defence Corps has reiterated its commitment to working closely with other security agencies and the community to maintain law and order in the state.

Salami, when questioned, admitted to stealing the EFCC uniform from a hotel in Lagos. He confessed to using the stolen items to deceive his friends and to impress people. Expressing remorse for his actions, he pleaded for leniency.

 “I actually stole the uniforms from a bag that I picked up from a hotel in Lekki. I don’t usually wear them, but I have taken pictures with them and sent them to my friends who I told I am an officer,” Salami said.

“I also like entering Lagos as an officer. I sincerely regret this and pray that the government will use this to warn me and let me go, as my parents are dead.”
