Adamawa State Executive Council Approves Over ₦8 Billion for Solar Energy Installation, Bridge Reconstruction

The Adamawa State Executive Council, during its 17th meeting of the year 2024, approved the supply and installation of 30kva solar hybrid systems in the state's cottage hospitals. Additionally, the EXCO approved the reconstruction of collapsed bridges in the Northern Zone of the state.
Addressing journalists after the weekly EXCO meeting chaired by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Council Chambers in Government House Yola, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Hon. James Iliya, stated that the 30kva solar hybrid systems, each with 60kwh otium batteries and 28 okwb (totaling 154.0kw), would cost ₦431,662,541.94.
He added that the contract had been awarded to Blue Camel Energy. Saying when the contract for the installation of the Solar Energy is completed will help to stabilize the sterilization of surgical equipment in theater centers, storage of vaccine drugs, and other medical consumables. The commissioner disclosed that the project would be completed within two months and would benefit the cottage hospitals in Shelleng, Guyuk, Demsa, Lamurde, Gombi, and Fufore.
Hon. James further announced that the EXCO had approved the reconstruction of 12 span bridges with approach roads (1000m each side) in Shuwa, Madagali LGA, and 4 span bridges with approach roads (400m each side) in Hyembula along the Mubi-Mararraba Michika-Maiduguri Federal High Way. He explained that the contract had been split into two lots: Lot one, comprising the construction of 7 span bridges and 1000 span approach roads, would cost ₦5,650,731,482.50. Lot two, involving the four-span bridge in Hyembula, would cost ₦2,530,503,309.60. The total cost of the projects amounted to ₦8,181,234,792.10, with MSSRS Triacta Nigeria Ltd as the contractor.
Providing more details on the project, the Commissioner of Works and Energy Development, Hon. Adamu Atiku Abubakar, said that the contract for the washed away bridges by rain this year, had initially been scheduled for completion in 12 months but had been expedited by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to be completed within 6 to 8 months. This was to enable security operatives in the Northern region, which had been ravaged by insurgent activities, to secure the area and revive economic activities.
Hon. Abubakar added that the state was gradually transitioning towards energy self-sufficiency. He mentioned that the New Electricity Bill passed in June of the previous year mandated states to generate and distribute power, and Adamawa State was working on its regulatory legal framework to facilitate partnerships for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Hon. Felix Tangwami, announced the launch of a Blood Sugar and Blood Pressure screening project, Project 10million. He stated that 10 million Nigerians would be screened under the project and that the launch would take place at the State Secretariat on Monday.
The Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Wunfe Anthony, reported an accident that had occurred on Monday on the Jos-Abuja highway, involving an Adamawa Sunshine Express bus with 20 passengers. All 20 passengers were confirmed dead. She said that the families of the victims had been contacted, 5 of whom were from the Nigerian Airforce, while 9 were evacuated to Adamawa State. The state government was offering condolences to the bereaved families and praying for eternal rest for the deceased. She urged travelers using Adamawa Sunshine Express to register themselves in the travel register to facilitate tracing their families in case of any unfortunate incidents.
