Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has directed the contractor handling projects in Lamurde, the headquarters of Lamurde Local Government Area, to double their efforts on the ongoing construction work or face contract revocation.
Speaking to reporters shortly after inspecting three projects in Lamurde, including a Cottage Hospital, a Model Primary and Junior Secondary School, and a Science and Technical School, the Governor issued a stern warning to the contractor.
“Some of the projects are progressing well, while others are lagging behind. We have asked the contractor to double their efforts, particularly the one handling the Model Primary and Secondary School,” Governor Fintiri said.
“He [the contractor] has promised to catch up within the next 30 days. I will be back on 29 December, so he should be counting the days.”
The Governor disclosed that a hired consultant had already issued a notice of revocation to the contractor due to performance issues.
“The consultants have already given him the notice of revocation. If, by the time I return, he has not reached the expected level of progress, we will have no choice but to revoke the contract. Public funds must be used responsibly.”
However, Governor Fintiri praised the contractor handling the Model Primary and Junior Secondary School project in Lamurde, noting its significant progress. He assured the contractor of his administration's support to ensure timely completion.
Regarding the delayed opening of the Lamurde Cottage Hospital, Governor Fintiri blamed the contractor for the delay. He expressed hope that the hospital would be commissioned for public use by the end of December or early January (2025) of the following year. He added that the hospital would be well-equipped and fully functional.
He noted that Lamurde is the last local government area in Adamawa State bordering Gombe and Taraba States. He announced his administration's commitment to helping the community save costs by providing accessible healthcare facilities within their locality, reducing the need to travel to neighbouring states.
