Following the destruction and looting of government property by hoodlums during the End SARS protests in many Nigerian states, Adamawa State among them, the State Executive Council has approved the renovation and construction of offices at the headquarters and central workshop of the state Agricultural Mechanisation Agency.
The approval was made at the State Executive Meeting, the twenty-third of 2024, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru on Wednesday at the Council Chambers in Government House, Yola.
Briefing reporters shortly after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. James Iliya, disclosed that the EXCO had approved the renovation and construction work to enable the state government to safeguard its valuable items and agricultural products.
He said that the contract was awarded to Kachala Multi Links Ltd at a cost of N197,254,398.45.
According to Hon. Iliya, the State Executive Council has also approved the publication of the business-enabling reform action plan for 2025 to meet the eligibility criteria for participation in the 2025 implementation period of the State Action on Business Enabling Reform Programme. He added that the Business Enabling Reform Action Plan will be published on the Adamawa State website before 31 December to meet the World Bank's eligibility criteria.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. James Iliya, revealed that the State EXCO has approved Phase 1 of the intervention fund of N238,750,000 to support 955 flood-affected households in the state. He announced that the local government areas affected by the flooding in 2024 are Numan, Lamurde, Madagali, Michika and Demsa. He said this would bring succour to the affected households.
Shedding more light on the distribution of the funds to the affected households, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Human Services, Barrister Bello Hamman Diram, explained that the amount approved by the EXCO means that each of the affected households will receive N250,000. He added that this is the recovery and development phase, and emphasised that the emergency phase was addressed immediately after the flooding in the affected communities.
