Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has signed into law the Repeal and Re-enactment of the Adamawa State District Creation Law 2024.
This comes after the Adamawa State House of Assembly passed the law and sent the clean copy to the Governor for his assent.
While signing the bill into law on Thursday in his office, Governor Fintiri thanked the State House of Assembly for their support in advancing the state.
The Governor stated that the created districts were a direct response to community requests.
"We have provided about 83 districts across the state, which was a direct result of the demand by the communities themselves," Governor Fintiri said.
"We considered repealing this law because of the vast ungoverned areas in the state, which has provided space for criminals to operate.
"We believe that with this, our communities will be able to be managed by people who truly understand their areas, are respected, and will do justice to their people."
Governor Fintiri revealed that the task of paying the supporting staff and the District Heads will be delegated to their respective Local Government Councils.
"One of the fundamental aspects of this law is that Local Government Councils will now be responsible for employing the support staff of the District Heads and paying their remuneration, as well as the salary of the District Heads, which will be reviewed periodically depending on the state's economic situation."
Governor Fintiri assured that his administration will continue to respond to the demands and requests of the people. He announced that his government's actions are a direct result of the people's mandate.
Governor Fintiri stated that his government will always adapt to changing times.
"One thing we should be aware of is that we are no longer in the 18th and 19th centuries. We are in the 21st century, and we will focus on the demands of this emerging era," Governor Fintiri concluded.
