Adamawa State, Nigeria – A recent cervical cancer screening exercise in the state has identified 165 positive cases out of 1,972 individuals screened across 21 local government areas.
Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Gorge Farauta disclosed this at a meeting of the Taskforce on Primary Healthcare, where she announced that those affected would undergo further evaluation and receive necessary medical treatment.
The meeting was convened to review the state's immunization achievements, address challenges, and plan future strategies. Professor Farauta commended the stakeholders for their efforts during the awareness, sensitization, and screening campaigns.
As the state prepares for an upcoming measles supplemental immunization campaign, the Deputy Governor urged for a repetition or even surpassing of the success achieved in the 2022 non-polio supplemental immunization campaign.
Addressing the recent outbreak of acute watery diarrhea in Yola North Local Government Area, Farauta noted that the situation had been stabilized, but urged health workers to provide prompt and coordinated responses to prevent further spread.
The Deputy Governor praised the dedication of implementing partners and assured the government's continued support for healthcare delivery in the state.
The Chairman Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Suleiman Saidu Bashir, in his remarks, stated that the meeting aimed to engage stakeholders and provide updates on primary healthcare activities. Representatives from the World Health Organization, Dr. Ahemen Teseer and UNICEF, Oluseyi Olosunde reiterated their commitment to effective service delivery in the state.
