The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved the construction of four hostel blocks at the Nigeria Law School Yola Campus.
Briefing journalists after the 13th meeting of the year 2024, of the State EXCO chaired by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Council Chambers in Government House Yola, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Hon. James Iliya, disclosed that as part of its state intervention project, the Adamawa State government has approved the construction of the four hostel blocks for male and female students.
He said that the state executive council has approved the total sum of ₦855,247,976.81 for the project to three contractors: SISILAR Investment General Contract Ltd, NUR-Structural Aluminium and Steel Engineering, and AB & LA Project Ltd. The contract is expected to be completed within 12 weeks.
The commissioner explained that the Nigeria Law School established in Yola in 2013 represents the North East subregion. He added that at its establishment, the school started with 250 students and has now grown to about 350. The state government is building the four block hostels to provide adequate hostel accommodation for the students.
Contributing, the Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abdullahi Prambe, stated that the Nigeria Law School Yola Campus is the only law school in the North East established by the Federal Government. He said that the Adamawa State Governor, out of his magnanimity, sees that the edifice is built to accommodate more students.
Hon. Prambe stated that when the hostels are completed, they will reduce the hardship faced by students who currently seek accommodation outside the campus and make it easier for them to attend their lectures on campus.
He disclosed that in previous years, the State Government had intervened by providing potable water within the campus and is doing everything possible to ensure that the campus remains in Yola. There had been competition from other North East states to host the school.
On his part, the Adamawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Afraimu Jingi, said that the Nigeria Law School enrolls students for a mandatory one-year program to train them to become lawyers from different states. As a member of the Council of Law Education, he appreciated the Adamawa State Government for its intervention in the Nigeria Law School Yola Campus. He urged relevant authorities to do the same in all sectors of education, saying that this would help build the nation with qualitative citizens.
