Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri dispatched his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, to mediate tensions between the Chobo and Gyakan communities in Lamurde Local Government Area on Wednesday. The crisis was sparked by a recent incident involving a local woman from Gyakan during a festive event.
During the peace engagement, Governor Fintiri, through his deputy, underscored the importance of law and order in fostering a harmonious society. He urged the communities to prioritize dialogue and understanding, emphasizing that such actions would heal wounds and pave the way for a more united future.
The governor expressed deep sympathy for the affected communities, assuring them of his administration's unwavering commitment to their safety and security. He issued a stern warning against any further acts of lawlessness, stating that perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
Security agencies, led by the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankwombo, have arrested the individual believed to be responsible for the recent violence. The suspect is currently in custody, pending further investigations and subsequent prosecution.
The Lamurde Local Government Chairman, Bulus Daniel, echoed the governor's call for peace, urging all parties to put aside their differences and prioritize the well-being of their communities.
