Maiduguri, Borno State – The University of Maiduguri will resume academic activities on Monday, September 23, following the recent devastating flood that ravaged the city.
The university’s registrar, Ahmad Lawan, announced the decision in a statement on Thursday. "After careful assessment of the situation, the university management has determined that it is safe for staff and students to return to campus," he said.
The flood, caused by the rupture of the Alau Dam, resulted in widespread damage to infrastructure and displaced thousands of residents. It marked the worst flooding in Maiduguri in over three decades.
Authorities have been working tirelessly to clear debris and restore essential services. The reopening of the university is a significant step towards normalcy in the affected region.
