Nigeria's Football Association has announced the appointment of Justin Madugu as interim head coach of the Super Falcons. This follows the departure of Randy Waldrum after a disappointing Olympic qualifying campaign.
Waldrum, who took over the reins in 2020, leaves Nigeria without any silverware to his name. Despite a strong performance at the 2023 Women's World Cup, which earned the Super Falcons the title of CAF's Women's Team of the Year, his tenure was marked by controversy.
The coach had been at odds with the NFF over unpaid salaries, a factor that is believed to have contributed to his exit.
Madugu, a former manager of Adamawa United, is no stranger to the Super Falcons. He previously stepped in to lead the team during Waldrum's absence earlier this year, guiding them to a resounding 4-0 victory over Ethiopia in an Olympic qualifier. His appointment is seen as a move to stabilise the team ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
As the Super Falcons look to turn a new page, Madugu will be tasked with bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm to the squad.
